INTRODUCTION
Vocational Technical Training Centre (Olu-Aka Di Mma), Coal Camp, Enugu is an arm of the Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace (CIDJAP). CIDJAP itself is a social organization of the Catholic Church committed to the implementation of Catholic social teaching, a non-governmental, non-profit, research and development organization.
VTTC, Olu-Aka Di Mma is the arm of CIDJAP that focuses on youth development through acquisition of skills.
It is clear that the major challenge facing the government, society and the church in Nigeria is unemployment. This has also continued to deteriorate on daily basis as more and more youths pass out from schools annually without hope of securing a job.
That was why in 2002 i.e. precisely sixteen years after the establishment of CIDJAP, it took a bold step to challenge this vise by establishing VTTC with the goal of empowering the youths through vocational training. The idea is to make them self reliant, self sustaining and also create employment opportunities for others and thus the slogan – Olu-Aka Di Mma.
To achieve the much we have, the founder/Director Very Rev. Prof. Monsignor Obiora Ike liaised with some foreign organizations which share the same idea. Notable among them are Fidesco and Misereor which through Hugo Oelz have been supporting the centre in terms of equipments and new project execution/expansion.

Challenges and proffered solution
- Finance: one of the major challenges facing the entire centre is finance. The major source of income has been the production works. There is a need for the centre to have other source of income if she must be self sustaining.
- Technical man power: it has not been easy to recruit maintain our technical staff. Even those training in the centre usually leaves for a better pay in other local industries. Thus, better working conditions is required to retain such staff
- Inadequate number of staff: considering the dual activities of the centre, more staff is supposed to be employed to ensure a maximum output.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER (OLU-AKA DINMA)
Towards the empowerment of the youths to discover innate gifts and talents that would have been dimmed by financial impoverishment of their families, CIDJAP pushes youths to their potentials in upholding the philosophy that self-help is best help.
In an effort therefore to enhance vocational and skill acquisition training, the Institute established training centres for young boys and girls namely, Oluaka Di Mma Vocational and Industrial Technical Training Centre (VITTC), Coal Camp, Enugu and the Nazareth Skills and Vocational Training Centre, Ogbete, Enugu, to provide sustainable self employment to the youths.
The Oluaka Di Mma Vocational and Industrial Technical Training Centre (VITTC) trains and offers services in auto mechanic, welding and fabrication, metal works, electrical installation and aluminum construction.
The Nazareth Skills Centre whose gigantic building was constructed and equipped by CIDJAP was established to provide training to young girls towards self-reliant and sustainable employment has since its founding in 1992 trained and graduated several young girls in the following fields;
- Computer and Secretarial Studies
- Tailoring and Fashion Designing
- Soap and Pomade making
- Domestic Training

- Cosmetology
The Centre is residential and the young girls trained in diverse skills for dignified livelihood and sustainable existence, upon the completion of their two-year practical and theoretical training, the one-year industrial training, and armed with the Center's certificate and the certificate of the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) as well as the West African Hygiene Education Board (WAHEB), engage in paid jobs in parts of Nigeria, or self-employed enterprises, or even gain admission into the tertiary institutions.
The centre is managed by the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary, the Catholic Women Organisation and the Institute and serves as a centre for the National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTED) and the students have been recording successes in the external examination.

VITTC 2013 Updates
Within the project year ended, VITTC launched her state-of-the-art automobile section. The unit was to take care of all forms of motor mechanic works and repairs. The opening of this unit made a landmark for the center as it was the first of its kind in the State.
Other units of the center have also functioned creditably well and added value to the name of the centre. Since inception, the centre has trained over 378 young men and women in their formalized areas of expertise.
The key challenge of this centre is more equipments for spreading of their areas of enterprise so as to meet up with more opportunities to add value to lives and the society.
