University of Nigeria Nsukka Visits CIDJAP ENUGU

On Thursday, July 18th, 2024, the undergraduate first-year Social Works students from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka embarked on an insightful field visit to the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP). This educational excursion, designed to provide the students with a practical understanding of social work in action, was led by Mrs. Inyoma Obasi Igwe, a lecturer from their department.

The students arrived at the CIDJAP office secretariat with a sense of anticipation and eagerness to learn. They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Ebele Odinachi the executive secretary of CIDJAP and then taken on a comprehensive tour of the CIDJAP facilities. This tour was meticulously organized to give the students a firsthand experience of the workings of a leading development and justice organization.

As they moved through the various departments, the students observed the dynamic environment where development projects and social justice initiatives are conceived and executed. Each unit they visited showcased CIDJAP’s commitment to its mission and the diverse range of activities it undertakes. From development programs, educational initiatives, and healthcare projects, to legal aid and advocacy, the breadth of CIDJAP’s work was both impressive and inspiring.

After the tour, the students gathered at Bishop Eneja conference hall for an address by Dr. Ebele Odinachi, the Executive Secretary of CIDJAP, and the Director of Projects. Dr. Odinachi, along with Mr. Ikenna David Ofordum, a staff of CIDJAP, provided a detailed presentation on the history of CIDJAP, its core values, and the various arms and functions of each unit within the organization.

Dr. Odinachi’s address was both enlightening and motivational. She emphasized the importance of the work being done at CIDJAP and how each unit plays a crucial role in advancing the institute’s goals of development, justice, and peace. Dr. Ebele complemented her address by sharing personal experiences and stories from her time working with CIDJAP, illustrating the real-world impact of their initiatives.

The students listened attentively, took notes, and asked questions, clearly inspired by the dedication and passion of the CIDJAP team.

At the conclusion of the session, the class representative stood to deliver a heartfelt vote of thanks. In his speech, he expressed gratitude on behalf of the students to Dr. Odinachi, Mr. David, and all the CIDJAP staff for their warm reception, comprehensive tour, and invaluable knowledge shared. The visit, he noted, had provided them with a richer perspective on their field of study and would undoubtedly influence their future endeavours in social work.

The visit ended on a high note with a group photograph, capturing the memorable occasion. The students posed together, alongside their lecturer and the CIDJAP team, their smiles reflecting the success and enjoyment of the day’s activities.
