New Face of Ave Maria Eye Specialist Hospital, Ogui, Enugu

The Ave Maria Eye Specialist Hospital is currently the only Catholic mission hospital with eye care services as its main apostolate and sole business in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Nigeria.

It is a project of the Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), under the management of the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy (DMMM) Sisters.

It started 6 years ago in the old dilapidated structures of the then Ave Maria dental center, through some renovation in 2019 to this state-of-the-art edifice in 2023.

It is fully equipped with high-quality human and material resources for comprehensive and specialist eye care services, such as prescription glasses, red and itchy eyes, cataract surgeries, glaucoma etc. These services are accessible and

affordable to all, children and adults, men and women alike, urban and rural, rich and poor – the primary purpose of its inception.

Ave Maria offers regular free eye care services at its base, as well as outreaches to schools and rural communities, every quarter of the year.

Through its motto, “Lord, that I may see”, it has been a source of consolation and joy to the people of Enugu and beyond; restoring sight to the visually impaired, offering proper eye health education to the public and improving peoples’ vision, which enables them achieve their mission.

It relies completely upon the maternal protection of Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help and reposes itself in Her for its continued purpose and existence – Ave Maria.
