CIDJAP’s Director visits Enugu Custodial Center to Address Inmate Concerns

Enugu, Nigeria – Msgr. Prof. Obiora Ike, the Director of the Catholic Institute for Development, Justice and Peace (CIDJAP), recently visited the Enugu Custodial Centre with a delegation of CIDJAP personnel to address the concerns of the inmates.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Controller of Correction, E. J. Usifo, the Deputy Director CIDJAP, Rev. Fr. Ambrose Ofodile, and other CIDJAP staff. Msgr. Ike met with inmates to discuss issues related to their welfare and rehabilitation.

During the visit, the CIDJAP delegation also met with the management of the custodial centre to discuss ways CIDJAP can support the facility in providing better conditions for the inmates.

Msgr. Ike noted that CIDJAP is committed to promoting the rights and welfare of all individuals, including those in custody. That CIDJAP will continue to work with the Enugu Custodial Center and other correctional facilities to ensure that inmates are treated with dignity and have access to the resources they need to reintegrate into society successfully.

The visit was part of CIDJAP’s ongoing efforts to promote justice and peace in Nigeria through its work with vulnerable populations, including inmates and their families.

Msgr. Obiora Ike, the CIDJAP’s Director, promised to build a female hostel for the female inmates, buy mattresses, and carry out some other capital-intensive projects in the custodian centre.
